I’m new to industry, wonder if you could address IFTA and the best practice for compliance. It appears daily paper records were the old way. I’m leasing onto a company, hopefully starting next week. When I asked, they indicated they could get me my jurisdiction specific mileage monthly from the KeepTruckin ELD but I should have a back up record in case the ELD malfunctions.
My question- what is the best practice for backup record keeping. An app? (I looked around, didn’t find any great ones). A spreadsheet? An old school daily record? A certain GPS? (Garmin Dezl may be an option). Something else?
Another IFTA related question- I read (from an unreliable source) that toll miles could be exempted from IFTA. True? I can’t find confirmation anywhere on IFTA website, my home jurisdiction website or other sources with one exception- MA turnpike
Thanks guys

We use KeepTruckin as our ELD provider. The web portal allows us to enter our fuel purchases and tracks our miles and tax liability by state. It prints out the required report for our quarterly compliance submission.
