Where to lease on?
Long story short I'm retiring after 20 years as a union LTL driver for UPS Freight (now TForce Freight as of 5-1-21) and will be purchasing a truck towards the end of this year, I know you're going to recommend Landstar but they actually turned me down even with 30 years experience, no tickets and no accidents EVER because I haven't run OTR in the past 3 years, despite having 10 years OTR experience before switching LTL to be home with the kids in 2001, yep they turn down a 30-year veteran with 20 year at one job 🤷, it's ridiculous to me because having done both running OTR is a vacation compared to LTL (no offense to anyone) I do 18-20 stops a day with a 53 footer in some of the most hard to get to locations you've ever seen including residential neighborhoods, but Landstar would rather hire a Swift driver with one year experience than me 🤔, oh well not looking to rant just looking for suggestions as to where to go .....
Thanks in advance
Matt

I agree that is ridiculous. I would say check into smaller companies based in your location. Something with 25-100 trucks that might have some dedicated lanes established. I would think they would be more likely to take you in I guess over a “mega carrier” like Landstar. But I would advise to thoroughly research each company so as not to get yourself into a bad situation. I hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks Brian and if you or anybody else reading this knows of any smaller companies like that that treat their owner operators good please let me know their name, I may just go all in and get my own authority right off the bat like Sammy did but I thought I would lease on somewhere first....
If you're still leased to Landstar next time you talk to somebody in the know ask them why they have such a ridiculous policy like that? I would really like to know, I was so disappointed when I called, I literally could not believe the lady was saying what she was saying 😔 I asked her at least three times if she was really telling a 30-year driver he wasn't qualified???....
Oh well there loss I guess even though I thought it would be a good place to put my truck on
Again thanks Brian and feel free to Email me or call / text me anytime if you hear of a good place, or put it up here, which ever, love your videos bud, and Sammy's aren't too bad either 😜

Matt, I can send you my carriers info via email. They've treated me pretty good, 1 of 5 owner ops.

I have to throw in my 2 cents here as the loyal opposition. Open deck is really interesting and fun but it’s physically challenging and the loads can be difficult to load, secure, keep secure, strap, chain and tarp. Then they eat your tarps, want to move around in transit yada yada. At 58 years old I love driving my tanker under the spout, letting a 20 something fill it, drive to the drop, tank cuts the wind like a bullet and let another 20 something hook it up and unload it. I can probably keep doing this as long as I want. Foodliner.com Questliner.com easy PZ. Take home between 3-4K a week.

Thanks Eric I will check into them, I've always had an interest in pulling a tank, anything but loading docks surrounded by the flip-flop crew would be great lollllll
